Nacida como Anita Belle Colton el 18 de octubre de 1919 en Chicago, falleció el 23
de noviembre de 2006 en Los Angeles. Es una de las mejores cantantes de jazz con
un estilo entre el swing y el bop. Compartió escenario y trabajo con Benny Goodman,
Gene Krupa o Roy Eldridge entre otras grandes figuras.
